This incredibly detailed proposal for an overhaul of BART signage and maps (PDF, 2.6MB) is worth a read. The elegance and consistency are compelling, and the color-coding is inspired. But I have to admit mixed feelings about the map redesign itself; I get a sense of form over function. Finally, there is one glaring omission: unless you can decipher the mumbled operator announcements, there is no way to tell where you are going. Where is the proposal for destination signs or route colors on the trains themselves? [via]
